Baby Carriers/Slings
More than just a functional means of transporting your baby here and there, baby carriers/slings help promote the physical and emotional development of your little one. ... read more [+/-]
Discover why more and more parents are enjoying the wonders of literally wearing their child using baby carriers and slings. If your child is much too young for playpens and strollers, a sling offers a wonderful way to gently transition your newborn
to the world while maintaining a comforting close body and eye contact.
Your newborn is simply not acclimated to the new sights, smells and sounds of the world. By using a front carrier, your child will be able to feel your body's comforting warmth and heartbeat along with the gentle motions that provide the essential sensory stimuli to help promote full neurological development. So while handheld car seats and strollers are relatively safe, it does not provide the necessary physical and emotional support your child needs as he gradually discovers the world.
Baby Slings
Slings are typically worn toga style, placed over the shoulder and are crossed over the chest. For infants and newborns that still don't have any neck control, it is recommended that they are placed on their backs, just like lying on a hammock. Slings are designed to allow parents and their babies' constant eye contact as well as allow mothers to discretely breastfeed their babies in public. On the other hand, older babies can be allowed to sit up and work over the hip.
Front Carriers
Like baby slings, front carriers are designed to be worn over the chest with the baby's head supported by the parent's chest, just beneath the chin area. These carriers are designed to carry newborns and toddlers of up to 22 to 26 pounds. During the first 6 months of your baby, it is highly recommended that your little one is positioned facing in towards the chest and gradually turned after 6 months to face the rest of the world.
Over the recent years, the use of carries and slings has become increasingly popular owning to the fact that these modes of transportation are able to foster the independence of the child at an early age. Instead of promoting over dependence, by satisfying your child's need for a certain degree of closeness and comfort, you will be able to help develop self-confidence and independence at an early age. This is an age-old tradition that has been passed one from one generation to another and now has become more popular among modern parents.
